FIRE EXTINGUISHER

A 3lb. Auto BCF (bromochlorodi- fluoromethane) fire extinguisher is being produced by Nu-Swift Inter- national Ltd., Elland, Yorks, UK. Pressure-charge-operated like its pre- decessors, but claimed to be much less toxic and capable of higher fire-fight- ing effect, it is mainly intended for electrical fire but can also put out inflammable-liquid fires and handle other small fires.

The BCF extinguisher is mounted on a wall bracket when not in use, and

comes in two versions: Model 5000 (illustrated, left, on its bracket) and Model 5003 (right, beside its bracket). Model 5000 features a controllable operating handle so that discharge can be started and stopped as required in locations subject to frequent small fires, while Model 5003 incorporates a strike knob and piercing spindle for total discharge at one time. Both models are easily held in an upright position and can be directed towards the flames with one hand, producing little after-fire mess.

They have an operational fine- spray discharge of 6ft. in still air, over a duration of 15sec. and can be reload- ed with a No.36 refill.

Inclusive of its bracket support, the Model 5000 measures 3in. in diameter by 17-3/4 in. high by 3in. from the wall. Model 5003 has corresponding dimensions of 23⁄4 in. in diameter by

16in. high by 44in. wide, with a 3-3/8in. maximum projection. The two versions weigh 8 and 71⁄4lb. respec- tively.

ENTRANCE INTERCOM

The Sentrycom automatic door porter has been designed to improve the security of domestic and commer- cial buildings. It takes the form of a remote-control door-answering and opening unit with up to nine channels. The system consists of a front- entrance microphone/speaker station with up to nine call buttons, the corresponding number of office or apartment loudspeaker units, and a robust electric lock. The installed front-entrance unit presents a 4-in.- wide by 16-in.-long stainless-steel face with an integral back box unit, 3 in. wide by 15 in. long by 121⁄2 in. deep, recessed into the entrance's wall or panelling. This back box incorporates a mains eliminator that provides low- voltage current to operate the system.

Internal microphones can be sup- plied to operate on 3, 6, 9 or 12 v.d.c., depending upon the volume required at the front entrance speaker, which gives a maximum 1-w. output at 12 v. Connection to internal speakers, which are flush- or surface-mounted anodis- ed-aluminium units 7 in. long by 5 in. wide by 11⁄2 in. deep, is by means of six-core cables.

A caller at the front door is an- nounced by an oscillator tone sound- ing through the internal speaker. A choice of locks is offered.

Sentrycom Systems Ltd., Arlington Road, London, N.W.1, are the makers.

point. This point will not flake or crumble with normal treatment and is said to make 3,000 check marks be- fore it needs to be re-sharpened.

The marks will not smudge or rub off on to opposite pages and areas can be shaded and then written on with ink, ballpoint or fibre pen. The colours are light fast and will not smear under moist hands.

Eagle Pencil Co. Ltd., Ashley Road, London, N.17, are the makers.

FLOOR TILES

Two more designs, Beacon Hill and Lorenzo, have been added to the Amtico range of vinyl floor and wall tiles introduced by Amtico Flooring Ltd., 22 Hanover Square, London, W.1, UK. Based on brick and pattern- ed-marble motifs respectively, the tiles have a 92 per cent vinyl content for high resilience, durability and resis- tance to marking.

Each Beacon Hill tile incorporates three travertine-effect facsimile bricks laid parallel to each other on a back-

If required, they can be supplied guillotined into individual brick-and-mortar sections, suitable for arranging in any standard brick pattern.
