On either side of the ground floor lobby are the Coffee Shop and the Gun Bar. The former has been interest- ingly partitioned to give it a cosy atmosphere while at the same time seating over 200 people. Built-in square seating arrangements break up the monotony of tables and chairs and there are stools around the service counter. Outside the shop itself fur- ther tables have been arranged to give a boulevard cafe effect with a view of the lobby.

The Gun Bar has taken its theme from Noel Coward's song 'Mad Dogs and Englishmen', and has a lazy, colonial-days atmosphere. Its walls are adorned with entertaining cartoon figures drawn by Zabo.

The Hongkong Hotel takes its name from the colony's first large
