Cover: The Roman Catholic Cathedral of Tokyo is a renowned modern masterpirce by the doyen of Japanese architecture, Kenzo Tange, professor of architecture at Tokyo University. It is characterised by four steep stainless steel roofs, each of which covers an entire side. These roofs meet in the centre to form the shape of a cross on plan. The structure stands 38 metres high and accommodates 2,900 worshippers. It was completed in 1965

one year after Tange's most famous work, the Olympic indoor gymnasium.
