EXCAVATOR
A hydraulic excavator equipped with a 7/8 cu. yd. bucket and capable of being coupled to a range of grab, shovel and crane attachments is being marketed by a French company.
Known as the LC80, it is powered by a six-cylinder air-cooled diesel en- gine. The multi-purpose boom and 8%1⁄2 ft. dipper arm, allow excavation and loading of a 15-ton truck in 5 minutes. Operating at three working cycles a minute, the LC80 excavates 150 cu. yd. an hour, loading 10 to 12 trucks in the process.
For trenching work, a full range of buckets is available to suit various pipe dimensions with backhoe depths of up to 20 ft. depending on the choice of dipper arm. In trenching, the LC80

RIPPER
A new Ateco radial-action ripper, model HR-180, Series III, for use on Michigan 180 Series III tractor-dozers, is announced by American Tractor Equipment Corporation, 9131, San Leandro Street, Oakland, California.
Close coupling of the radial action tool beam to the tractor concentrates full weight on the shanks for fast pene- tration in tight materials. Its arcing movement helps in ripping down-slopes and in breaking out large slabs of pave-

ment and rock. High ground clearance in the raised position permits travel over rough ground.
Live-Action swing brackets help keep shanks facing into the load work- ing up rock to promote easier steering. The alloy steel tool beam can accom- modate up to three shanks with pene- trating depths down to 26 in.
ARTICULATED DOZER
An articulated tractor dozer that permits easier handling and movement of materials has been introduced by the Construction Machinery Division of Clark International Marketing, S.A., P.O. Box 333, Benton Harbour, Michi- gan, USA.
The four-wheel drive Michigan Model 280 is suitable for clean-up and dozing work on congested construction sites. Its turning radius is 23 ft. (7.02 metres), 4 ft. (1.21 metres) short of its total length.
The power unit is a General Motors diesel en- gine of 318 h.p. A Clark power shift transmission al- lows the operator to select any of eight forward speeds and four reverse s pe e d s. The top forward speed is 31,2 m.p.h. (50.1 km/ hr).
The straight blade, measuring 4 ft. 4 in. (1.32 metres) high, and 13 ft. 4 in. (4.06 metres) wide, is controlled by two lift cylinders, two pitch cylinders and one tilt cylinder. All cylinders are of heavy-duty, double acting design.
The blade is mounted on a simple, strong, one piece C-frame. This elimi- nates the need for multiple braces and auxiliary stiffening members.
Working weight of the Michigan 280 is 66,200 lb. (29.964 kg). It has an overall length of 27 ft. 3 in. (8.30 metres) and the width is 11 ft. (3.35 metres). It is equipped with standard 29.5 x 29, 16 PR tyres.

drive for the vibratory unit and a work- ing speed of 70 f.p.m.
Designed to compact fill around footings, along retaining walls and abut- ments, in trenches, driveways and on road widening jobs, the DD-17 is re- commended for lift thickness of 6 in. to 20 in. in granular soil and 5 in. to 10 in. in cohesive soil.
