Italian marble accentuate the height of a new 12-storey block re- cently completed in the commercial heart of Kuala Lumpur. Darker marble is used as cladding up to second floor level and again at roof level as contrast, giving the tower a luxurious dominance befitting a bank building.

The block is the M$2.5 million Bangkok Bank, which overlooks a small pleasant green at the junction of High Street (Jalan Bandar) and Pudu Street (Leboh Pudu).

It is a reinforced concrete framed structure with in situ reinforced con- crete floors resting on a reinforced raft foundation. There are 12 storeys above road level and two basement floors below.

The accommodation is made up of two floors (ground and mezzanine) used as banking premises, nine floors as rentable office space surmounted by a penthouse flat, and the two base-

ment floors used for bank officials and

tenant car parking. The main en- trance to the bank and the office space is from High Street, one of the most important streets in Kuala Lumpur, while the entrance to the car park is from Pudu Street.

Entrance to the bank and offices is obtained through a fully glazed foyer with attractive indoor fountains and a pool giving a cool relaxed atmosphere. Behind the entrance foyer lies the banking hall with Travertino walls and columns and white Calacat marble

counter top.

The bank's strong room, which is encased in stainless steel, is located on this floor and incorporates the very latest in bank vault security equipment.

The manager and compradore offices are situated just off the bank- ing hall and have been given an air of sumptious dignity by the use of royal blue padded leather on the walls with red carpeting on the floor.
