prior to 1959, and before an overall plan was adopted. The architecture and environmental planning in the whole project have been developed together and the building forms and space around them blend into a har- monious composition.

Construction

The construction of all the build- ings except the drill shed is reinforc- ed concrete, and a mixture of spread and piled foundations has been used. The external finishes are generally plaster painted with a few panels of Shanghai plaster and Glamorock, all roofs being finished with asphalt.

The drill shed is a portal steel frame using high tension friction grip bolts and designed on the ultimate strength method. The roof is of woodwool slabs and finished with green felt.
