Filling and spraying is by means of a single-cylinder air compressor driven by a four-stroke petrol engine. A simple valve arrangement enables suc- tion to be obtained for filling or pres- sure for spraying. A relief valve and compound pressure gauge are fitted.
Standard equipment includes an adjustable suction tube; reinforced rubber suction hose, 5 ft. long by 11⁄4 in. bore; armoured rubber delivery hose, 15 ft. long by 4 in. bore; a spraying lance with control tap; handles and nozzle. The unit is mount- ed on a rolled-steel channel chassis and the axle is on semi-eliptic springs. It has internal expanding brakes with over-run mechanism in the 16 in. wheels. The machine is 91 in. long, 44 in. wide and 48 in. high.
LOADER
A patented automatic power distri- butor on a new French loader, the type D 120, ensures that the installed power is completely used either at the wheels or simultaneously at the wheels and equipment. The distribution be- tween force and speed to the equip-

ment and the drive enables the machine to attain performance figures normally associated with a very much larger unit.
Shovel raising is almost vertical and is by means of a flexible quadrilateral arm. The shovel pivots at its centre
making it possible, during scraping, for the cutter to advance and therefore to obtain more rapid filling.
A hydrostatic reversing speed varia- tion eliminates internal hydraulic slip- pages, facilitating mobility. Travel speeds are up to 22 m.p.h. (36 k.p.h.).
Starts, acceleration and violent braking at front and rear are obtained without the operator having to remove his feet from the two lever pedals. Equipment movements are obtained with a single lever. The hydraulic steer- ing is soft and accurate.

TAMPER
Production of a new plate tamper which produces 3500 lb. of impact 2800 times a minute is announced by Stow Manufacturing Co., 627 Shear Street, Binghampton, New York. It travels at up to 75 ft. per minute.
The T-51B has an exclusive com- bination plate in 12, 18 and 24 in.

widths and has two tamping surfaces 3 in. and 5 in. wide front and back. On soils such as sand where the 3 in. sur- face may not be large enough for the unit to propel itself, the operator merely tips the tamper slightly ahead so that it rides the 5 in. surface.
The handle uses torsion mounts at two points as well as three additional rubber mounts which isolate the operator from vibration, a 3/21⁄2 quart gas tank is located on the handle to eliminate it from machine vibrations.
