even ground without hanging up. The arcing movement allows ripping down slopes and banks and permits large slab break-out.
The ripper is equipped with a three-position tool beam with inboard bearings. 'Live Action' shank brackets mount on the tool beam and swivel a
TRUCK
An off-road truck with high-per- formance features, the Haulpak 35C, has been announced by the Construc- tion Equipment Division of Westing house Air Brake Co. (WABCO), Peoria, III., USA.
The vehicle retains the V-type de- sign and has a longer body for easier

loading by front-end loaders. It has a closed hydraulic system for simpler operation with full flow filtration and a 30 per cent. increase in pump capa- city.
The box-section frame has ad- ditional tubular cross members with a new bolt-on fuel tank of larger capa- city. The frame has been widened to give greater stability.
A GM or Cummins engine, with electric shift Allison transmission, may be fitted. A larger steering cylinder is provided and the tie rod has infinite. adjustment for accurate toe-in control with shock eliminator added to absorb damaging road shock to the steering gear. An emergency steering system is also included.
The unit rides on new and simpler suspensions, called Hydrair II.
LOADING SHOVEL
The new JCB700 rear-wheel-drive, front-wheel-steer loading shovel fea- tures a 3,500lb. capacity bucket and parallel-lift geometry. It is powered by a four-cylinder BMC Nuffield indus- trial tractor unit producing 65 h.p. at 2,200 r.p.m. through a torque-conver-

ter power shift transmission system.
There are 10 forward speeds from 1.5 to 18.2 m.p.h. and two reverse speeds. Four 4in. diameter double- acting hydraulic rams operate the side arms, the two trunnion-mounted crowd-action rams developing a break- out force of 9,220lb, and the lift arms developing 9,500lb.
An automatic bucket-levelling faci- lity operates when raising or lowering the side arms, and the bucket rolls back through 45 deg. to give a no-spill action in the carrying position.
Fitted with the standard side arms, the machine has a maximum load-over height of 10ft. 9%1⁄2in.
Forward reach using the standard side arms at a 7-ft. dump clearance is 3ft. 6 in.
Weighing 7 tons 1 cwt. overall, with a weight distribution in the un- loaded condition of 75 per cent on the rear axle and 25 per cent on the front,

the JCB 700 is 19ft. 6 in. long, 8ft. 3⁄4in. wide and has a turning circle of 45ft. 9in. The standard, general- purpose bucket holds 1-1/8 cu.yd.
The makers are J.C. Bamford Ex- cavators Ltd., Rocester, Uttoxeter, Staffs., U.K.
RIPPER
Ateco, Oakland, California, have brought out a Mark III series model HRS TD25C radial action ripper for international tractors.
The close coupled radial lift design provides a high wide angle of de- parture to permit travel over rough un-

RESIN MORTARS
A range of sand-filled epoxy resins posessing outstanding strength and ad- hesion has been developed for repair, protection and bedding applications by Expandite Ltd., Chase Road, Lon- don, N.W.10.
They will bond to concrete and steel, wet or dry, and cure with negli- gible shrinkage. Their resistance to both physical damage and chemical attack are said to be excellent. They are supplied, partially pre-mixed, in two parts. Three grades have been for- mulated to provide the handling quali- ties and physical properties required for a wide variety of applications.
The general purpose one is a ver- satile material with low slump charac- teristics for general repair work includ- ing patching of spalled or honey- combed vertical surfaces and protect- ing exposed reinforcement, reinstating damaged arrises, maintaining street furniture and repairing damaged pre- cast concrete building units.
The bedding compound is filled with finer sand and possesses easier workability for bedding applications such as bedding kerb stones, steel plates, heavy plant and bridge bearing pads.
The third, for underwater applica- tion, provides, dense, protective coat- ing, highly resistant to corrosive at- tack. It is ideal for reinstating seawalls, protecting submerged steelwork, re- pairing submerged concrete and for raising and reseating rocking manhole
covers.
