PUMP

Five Standard Sizes

Handle up to 75,000 g.p.m.

MANUFACTURED in five standard sizes, from 3 in, to 8 in. the Series 3 range of pumps can provide through- puts between 9,500 and 75,000 g.p.m. and work against heads of up to 150 ft.

Designed for easy maintenance the impeller of each pump screws directly on to the shaft and can be extracted, together with the diffuser, simply by removing the cover. In addition, the separate seal unit has been equipped

Warwick series 3 pump

with a double-ended carbon-resin seal and fitted into a sealed oil chamber, free of liquid and abrasives in suspen- sion, so that it need not be touched except for major overhauls. A re- tainer on the boss at the back of the impeller keeps grit away from the seal, while balance vanes on the back of the impeller provide further pro- tection by deflecting larger particles of dirt.

The pump can be run dry without damage to the seal. A large number

of vanes ensures rapid priming, as the water, by circulating round the vanes creates an effective vacuum at the im- peller tips to draw up the necessary amount of water. There are no valves or small holes to become blocked dur- ing operation, but the use of a slack valve in the suction branch of the water pipe allows sufficient water to be retained in the pump for re-prim- ing on the next starting.

Made by Warwick Pump & En- gineering Co. Ltd., Ferry Lane, Hythe End, Staines, Middx, UK, the pumps can be close coupled to any make of engine or motor. Agents are United Engineers, Ltd.. Singapore and Kuala Lumpur.

BACKHOE

Side-Shift Unit Will Work Close to Walls

NOW being introduced to world markets by the Ford Motor Co.'s Overseas Tractor Operations is the Model 752 side-shift backhoe. This has a boom which can be moved 30in. from centre to left to right to allow digging flush to walls, founda- tions or kerbs.

Its

Based on the Ford 4500 industrial tractor, the 752 has a maximum digging depth of 12 ft. 10 in. rotary-swing motor delivers constant torque throughout a 182-degree swing arc. Full bucket loads can be swung uphill and a special decelerator valve slows the boom before it reaches maximum swing to prevent striking the frame. Digging force at bucket teeth is 10,000 lb.

the

Stabilizers are of box construction, with four position adjustments to provide either close wall clearance or a maximum working spread of 97 in.

The transport width is 6ft. 5in.

A pivoting seat and controls posi- tion the operator for good visibility with the digging elements fully side- shifted. The unit has a roomy plat- form and contour padded operator

seat.

CRANES

New Range of Crawler and Truck Machines

K & L Steelfounders and Engineers Ltd., Letchworth, Herts., UK. have launched a new range of crawler and truck-mounted cranes, the Jones 851 series.

The mobile and truck models have maximum lifting capacities of 35 tons and both can be fitted with a 230 ft. jib combination. Standard power unit fitted to all models is a Perkins 6.354 diesel, developing 90 b.h.p. at 200 r.p.m. and driving through a heavy- duty dry-plate clutch and three-speed gearbox. Combined with infinitely variable engine speeds, the gears will give the correct power/speed ratio for every type of job.

Clutches for all crane motions are air powered, and are self-adjusting and self-lubricating. Hoisting on either the main or the auxiliary win- ches operates through a silent-pawl free-wheel mechanism inside the brake drum, enabling the winch to be rotated without disengaging the brake. The pawl mechanism automatically engages and positively holds the load the instant that the hoist control lever is released and returned to neutral. A disengageable engine-controlled lowering mechanism controls the lowering speed at up to 165 ft. per minute.

Mounted оп a sealed cross roll bearing, the superstructure is rotated by a free running double reduction reversible drive unit operated through air clutches. The crane can be slewed continuously in either direction at speeds of up to 2 r.p.m. under full load, or with maximum jib combina- tions.

The semi-hammer head jib is designed to give a greater height of lift in relation to overall height com-
