BRIDGE JOINT

Allows Horizontal Movement on Medium - span Bridges

A

PREFABRICATED mechanical joint seal of Neoprene and steel, allowing a high degree of horizontal movement on bridges of up to 250 ft. span. has been developed by Expandite. It avoids the necessity of using a sur- face seal of hotpoured compound or polysulphide sealants, which extrude when compressed and are therefore damaged by traffic.

Claimed to have a life equal to that of the bridge structure. the system comprises a metal top plate bolted to an angle-section bottom plate, running the width of the bridge. These hold a multiple-8-section Neo- prene seal, with flat side wings that are clamped between the steel plates.

The seal accommodates the hori- zontal movement without transmission

of forces across the joint, while being narrow enough to allow heavy traffic to pass over it, without undue buffet- ing of the material.

A flashing, incorporated at the back of the joint, forms part of the bridge deck membrane. The joint is swept up, through a special kerb unit, to the footway, where it is continued without break, but with lighter metal sections that embody a sliding top plate over the joint to prevent heels being caught.

Hidaway plastic cistern

Ideal for use in industrialised hous- ing work, the Hidaway can be posi- tioned at high, or low level, fixed on the front or back wall of the duct, operated right or left hand, and can be supplied with side or bottom feed and overflow.

It can be used for any type of concealed cistern installation, and as its overall projection is only 54 in. it will fit in even the narrowest duct. No brackets are required as fixing is by four screws direct to the wall.

The unit is moulded in high im- pact_polystyrene and is fitted with a Jet Syphon and All-Delrin ballvalve. It is available in 2 or 21⁄2 gallon capacity, and can be supplied with dual flush if required.

A range of fittings includes a finger control and foot pedal, as well as a standard lever.

SPRAY UNIT

Applies Oil Bound Paints and Distempers

MODELS Pilot K40 and K50 diaphragm compressor spray units deliver oil-free compressed air at

rates of 42 and 9 cu. ft. a minute respectively. Each incorporates a re- gulating valve and operates from 220 V.

ге-

The conventional piston, which quires lubricating. has been replaced by a heavy duty diaphragm made from a synthetic material. The K40 1/3 h.p.

uses a

motor and the K50 a 4 h.p. motor. Both versions can be used to spray high-gloss paints, oil-bound paints and distempers, varnishes, wood dyes, waterbased wall paints, lacquers and creosote. If the valves in the dia- phragm are reversed, the compressors act as vacuum pumps.

A typical spray gun, the Pilot V SP, for use with these compressors needs a supply from 14 to 44 p.s.i. and is supplied with a spray head for either fan or round sprays. Spray nozzles are available with bores of 0.5 mm, 0.8 mm, 1.2 mm or 2 mm.

COPYING MACHINE Machine Produces Clear Copies One Quarter Size

THE Copygraph high-speed elec- trostatic copy machine bridges the gap between standard copying and microfilming by reducing all copies to one quarter the size of the original. These-copies, sharp and clear enough to be read without difficulty, are easily handled and take up less filing space. Constructed on a steel frame, with a stove-enamelled cabinet and stain- less-steel top, the Copygraph measures 2 ft. 3 in. high by ft. 5 in. wide by 1 ft. 8 in. deep and can either be in- stalled as a freestanding unit or built into a counter arrangement. flush with the top surface. Copies are made by the dry-toner method on reels of zinc-oxide-coated paper mea-
