To cater for the ever changing departmental organisa- tion of the Lutheran Service the centre is designed to allow for frequent changes in accommodation. Internal and external walls can be changed at will with minimum effort. PWD ARCHITECT RETIRES

WONG Ting-tsai. Chief Architect, Hong Kong Public Works Department. has retired after 13 years' service with the department.

He was presented with a farewell gift from his col- leagues at ceremony last month. Mr. Michael Wright, Director of Public Works, made the presentation. He said: "There are many buildings which bear the stamp of quality both in design and detail which has always been the hallmark of Mr. Wong's work. He has won prizes in several photography competitions and his re- putation as an architectural photographer spreads far beyond Hong Kong."

Mr. Wong is 45. He is emigrating to Canada with his family.

CONTRACTORS ELECT OFFICIALS

MR. Quintin K. Calderon, head of a Manila construc- tion firm bearing his name, has been elected president of the Philippine Contractors Association.

Other officers elected recently were: Mayor Emiliano Caruncho Jr., vice president: Col. Antonio P. Chanco, vice president: Ramon Hechanova, secretary; and Eligio de Guzman, treasurer. Members of the board are: Vicente Esquerra. Alfonso Casimiro, Federico A. Santander, Eduardo Santiago. Ed. M. Sison, Lucio Lee Rodriguez, Benjamin Ynson, Max Stuessi and Roberto Montinola.

WOOD WOOL FACTORY

A FACTORY manufacturing wood wool slabs has started operations at Petaling Jaya, near Kuala Lumpur. The slabs, which are particularly suitable for use on multi- storey buildings because of their light weight, are made from timber fibre, chemicals and cement.

The makers. Wood Wool Slab Manufacturing Co., Ltd., claim that they are also fire-proof, sound-proof, heat-resisting and non-absorbant. Some 400 slabs a day are being produced at present but this is expected to be increased to 1,000 a day in the near future.

BIDS FOR MACAU HOUSES

TENDERS are being invited for the construction of 270 houses for under-privileged persons in Macau. Two hundred houses will be built at Taipa Island at a cost of nearly HK$1,100,000.

The other 70, costing about HK$430,000, will be in Macau. The United Nations High Commission for Re- fugees has donated US$150,000 towards the houses on Taipa Island.
