It may be that in the long run the presence of modern architecture in Macau will prove of some seminal influence in a city where for the time being most construction work proceeds in almost entire freedom with no aims beyond quick and sub- stantial profits, disguised under the appearance of the so-called "Pro- gress of Macau”.
