Cover: Prefabricated 'cans' being placed on manipulator rolls where they are joined by internal and external circumferential welding to form a section of one of the units for Hong Kong's submerged-tube, cross-harbour tunnel. From next month, the tunnel units, varying between 320 ft. and 370 ft. long, will be launched into the harbour at Hung Hom, before being fitted out, towed to position and submerged to the harbour bed. Consulting engineers for the project are Scott Wilson Kirkpatrick & Partners.
