The fourth floor contains a ma- ternal and child health centre with offices for a doctor and health visitors, infant-weighing. immunisation and health education facilities. The re- mainder of the floor contains an X-ray survey centre,

The fifth floor is entirely occupied by an eye clinic. Apart from medical officers' and medical social workers' accommodation, there are treatment rooms, an operating theatre, a work- shop, instrument storage and repair facilities.

Part of the 6th floor contains an ear. nose and throat clinic with facilities for consultation, speech therapy and audiometry, and an operating theatre. The remainder of the floor is taken up by consulting and waiting room accommodation,

The multi-chair dental clinic is on the seventh floor. There are

dental surgeries together with the dental laboratory, dental health education and storage facilities.

On the eighth floor is the mental out-patient clinic with facilities for consultation and occupational therapy. On the ninth floor, there is a day treatment centre for mental patients, a lunch room for patients, a staff recreation room and general storage space.

Construction

The building is founded on 20in. diameter and 18in. diameter cast in- situ concrete piles, approximately 75 ft. long.

It has a reinforced concrete frame of beam and slab construction, wind stresses being taken by the end walls and a shear wall in the centre of the building. The service tower is

enclosed by a 9in. reinforced concrete wall and is designed as an indepen- dent unit of the structure.

On the exterior, white Shanghai plaster is used to emphasise the framework and sunbreakers, green Glamorock is applied to all the wall panels, while the two end walls and service tower are finished in silicon painted off-form concrete.
