SET

ET high up on Victoria Peak, the Luginsland apartment block com- mands a wide view of Hong Kong harbour and the Kowloon peninsular. It consists of 38 three-bedroom flats for the families of executives, each of which has its own covered car parking space at ground level.

The site is very restricted, being a shelf carved from the steep terrain of the Peak.

It was originally oc

a three-storey building. which was demolished in 1964. Because of this limitation building area is only 5,600 sq. ft. and the number of buildings which surround the site, the architects have made full use of the height allowances of the local building regulations and the block rises as a tall slim tower to a height of 220 ft. above ground level. To break the monotony of the skyline, a series of barrel arches has been erected on the roof, above the main facade.

The building stands оп piled foundations, cast in situ piles being sunk to a depth of 50 ft.

Concrete Frame

Reinforced concrete is used for the structural framework and brick panels for the cladding. The basic design. providing resistance against typhoons. is a wind tower and shear walls, with hollow tile ribbed floors.

Finishes comprise cement plaster with Durotex Texturex emulsion paint on the external walls, lime plaster with emulsion paint in living, dining and bedrooms, and porcelain tiles on the walls of bathrooms and kitchens.
