Benoto CH/Y 600 Shovel

The arm and shovel motions are controlled by a semi-automatic ad- justable hydraulic system which in- cludes two double-acting hoisting jacks and two double-acting shovell- ing jacks. The CH/Y 600 is capable of conveying a 4,200 kg load and of developing a thrusting force of 10.200 kg at the blade.

Dumping height is three metres beneath the tipped knife.

TRUCK

3 ton Model with 21 ft. Turning Radius

SHORT and long wheelbase models are available in a new truck range, the KM series being manufactured by Hino Motors, Ltd, 4, 2-Chome, Tori, Nihonbashi, Chuo-Ku, Tokyo. Maximum payload is 3 tons.

The power unit is the Hino 4,313 c.c., 90 h.p. diesel engine, which has six cylinders and is water cooled. A dry single plate clutch of the strap drive type is fitted, and the transmis- sion provides four forward speeds and one reverse, with syncromesh in first, second and third gear. Maxi- mum speed is 51.5 m.p.h.

Hydraulic brakes, with vacuum servo, are fitted on all four wheels and suspension is by semi-elliptic leaf springs at front and rear. Recir- culating ball-type steering gear gives a turning radius of only 21 ft.

The two-seater driver's cabin has all-round visibility through blue-

tinted glass which cuts out glare. Of all-welded construction, the complete cab hinges forward to expose the power unit for maintenance.

Chassis weight of the short wheel- base model is 4,905 lb., and vehicle weight with a standard dump body, is 7,032 lb.

8 in. well point pump by Blaw Knox pump is 2,000 g.p.m. at a total head of 60 ft., with a 21ft. suction lift.

The standard model measures 10ft. 8in. long by 4ft. 4in. wide by 6ft. 3in. high and weighs 4,200 lb.

A six-cylinder Perkins 354 water- cooled diesel, with a 24-hr, rating of 63 b.h.p. at the governed speed of 1,400 r.p.m. is fitted. Fuel-tank capacity is 16 gal., and consumption at full load is 22.5 pt. per hr.

The centrifugal pump, which has a gunmetal impeller, is direct-coupled to the engine through a universal carden shaft and sliding splines. The 10in. dia. suction inlet is protected against the entry of large solids by a screen box: a tapered reducing connection is supplied for use with 8in. dia. header pipes.

vacuum pump, with totally-enclosed piston. is belt-driven from the main drive shaft. It is connected to the centrifugal pump via a float chamber that prevents the entry of water, while allowing free passage of air to the vacuum pump.

A check valve on the discharge side of the centrifugal pump is arranged to exert a slight back pressure on the discharge, even when wide open: the back pressure can be increased by screwing down on the valve stem. which is equipped with a lock nut and, if required, a pressure gauge.

Heavy Duty Components and Power Steering

THE International Harvester Co. of Australia Pty., Ltd., 171-205 City Road, South Melbourne, have releas- ed a new rear wheel drive rubber- tyred loader with a 1 cu. yd. bucket capacity.

Known as the model A2554 Super- loader, it is powered by the AD-264 diesel engine which provides 55 h.p. at 1800 r.p.m. Heavy-duty compon- ents are built into the machine, in- cluding power steering and a rugged steel radiator guard with quick-release door for inspection of the hydraulic pump. ed front axle with centre-mounted pivot pin and stay rods attached to the clutch housing, is fitted with cast spoke wheels and 7.50 x 20 ten-ply tyres with demountable rims for quick tyre changes.

A closed pressure-controlled hy- draulic system with vacuum relief valve is set to 2000 p.s.i., and a three- spool valve handles optional hydrau- lic attachments such

as the Drott four-in-one bucket of cu, yd, cap- acity.
