WIRE FEEDER
A portable wire feeder unit that can be connected to almost any manual welding power source is now available internationally through B. W. Darrah, Inc., One East Wacker Drive, Chicago, Ill, U.S.A. It is designed for semi-automatic build-up and hard sur- facing welding.
The feeder is said to reduce sub- stantially the cost per pound of weld deposit compared with manual

methods. It is used with flux-cored wire on a constant current power source, either rectifier or motor generator.
Welding is started by touching the wire to the workpiece. Arc voltage is controlled by the speed of the drive motor that forces wire through the gun. Voltage is held within very close limits to eliminate ‘hunting'.
LOAD TRANSFER UNIT.
A variety of batch production items can be palletised with a load- transfer unit made by Lodematic (Components) Ltd., Primrose, Cli- theroe, UK.
Drums, for example, on a double unit, may be simultaneously stood

upright and palletised in pairs. Loads assembled at a convenient working height of say 3 ft. (0.914 m) can be turned, grouped, lowered and offered to a fork truck at floor level.

Following the strapping of bales or
closure of packing cases, the unit can be used for turning, lowering or stand- ing the load on-end-on pallet boards if necessary ready for removal by truck, roller truck, or clamp truck. The basic unit with turntable or roller tracks plus push-bar and rake-rams, and with vertical or horizontal traverse if necessary, can be integrated into a palletising system to suit individual applications and load patterns.
CONCRETE SAW
The Easy-Cut concrete and asphalt saw manufactured by Errut Products Ltd., Jubilee Close, London, N.W.9, is now available fitted with a lightweight diesel engine.
The engine is the Petters AC1, a single cylinder four-stroke air-cooled diesel, developing 6 h.p. at 3,000 r.p.m., with drive to the saw spindle carried through triple x-section belts. Cuts of 11⁄2 in. to 2 in. (38 mm to 50 mm) can be made with the saw, al- though with several passes this can be extended up to 4 in. (101 mm). The
Easy-Cut saw
saw may be fitted with 14 in. (325 mm) abrasive blades in thicknesses giv- ing cuts up to% in. (20 mm) wide at each single pass. Alternatively, the saw spindle may be fitted with a woven wire brush for cleaning out channels, or expansion joints for sealing main
tenance.
Other applications for the saw in- clude: traffic loop detector installa- tions where the channel is cut to the full width at one pass, sawing expan- sion joints, delineating areas of excava. tion ready for butt-joint reinstate- ment, and sawing grooves and channels for services installations.
ROLLER DOORS
Roll-a-doors, produced by Byrne & Davidson (Manufacturing) Pty. Ltd., 34 Marigold Street, Revesby, NSW, Australia, employ the continuous cur- tain principle which makes them light and easy to operate.
The principle involves pressed metal zinc coated sheets joined to
gether to form a continuous flexible covering, free of deformation.
The doors are made in 149 stan- dard sizes for domestic or industrial
Roll-a-door
installation, the larger closures being fitted with reduction gearing to permit light handling. Household garages are catered for with doors up to 10 ft. wide and 8 ft. high. For wider domes- tic openings two or more doors, fitted with removable aluminium mullions may be installed.
For industry doors up to 16 ft. 4 in. wide by 13 ft. high and 15 ft. 6 in. high by 14 ft. 3 in. wide are available. An internal clearance of 15 in. above the lintel is required to accommodate the roller when the door is in its fully opened position.
FIXING BOLT
A new type of anchor bolt with a fixing system involving mass expansion of the bolt's sleeve to give good gripping power in soft or hard mate- rials, has been introduced by Feb (Gt. Britain) Ltd., Albany Road, Man- chester 21, UK.
The bolt comprises a bolt and sleeve in high quality steel coated with zinc to resist corrosion. Fixing is sim- ple because it is only necessary to drill one hole the same size as the bolt, which is then inserted and a nut tightened on the threaded outward end.
The outward mass expansion of the sleeve when compressed by the tightening of the nut locks the bolt securely and permanently into a varie- ty of materials.
The types and sizes of bolt avail- able include: projection, countersunk and roundhead types of head, with diameters from 3/16 in. to 3/4 in. and lengths from 1 in. to 9 in.
