HYGROMETER
The humidity of gases or air can be read from across the average room to within 1 per cent accuracy with the new Shaw Hygrometer which is fitted with an illuminated two figure read- out.
A spring toggle switch gives an instant check on accuracy, but there are no knobs, as adjustmants are not needed because of the uniformity of the humidity sensing elements.
The dial has a linear scale clearly marked in degrees C. dewpoint. Print ed circuits with silicon solid state devices are used in the unit which has a response time of less than a second.

LIFT LIGHTING
An emergency lift lighting unit which comes into operation automati- cally in the event of a power failure, has been introduced by Security Light- ing Ltd., Radiant Works, Pegasus Road, Croydon, UK.

top of the lift car roof, the power source consists of a sealed nickel cadmium battery normally kept fully charged through the mains supply. If a mains failure occurs, a solid-state switching circuit actuates an inverter/ ballast unit, which brings the lamp circuit into operation. Upon restora- tion of the mains supply, the battery automatically recharges. Leads measur- ing 3 ft. long connect the cabinet and the lamps, which may take the form of two 9 in. 6w. or 6in. 4w. fluorescent lamps or one 4 to 16w.lamp.
SPRAY PLANT
Paints and other materials in a wide range of viscosities can be handled by the Wagner 4000H, a new airless paint spraying kit. The mobile machine can be operated at a delivery rate of up to 1 g.p.m., drawing paint up from the original container.
The 4000H, in addition to pro- ducing virtually no paint mist and achieving a high-quality finish, makes it possible for spraying to be carried out using unthinned paint. Powered by an electrically-driven pump, it operates by drawing paint up through a flexible

suction hose (the filtered end of which is simply lowered into the original paint cannister) and then delivering it
through a smaller-diameter hose to the spray gun at an adjustable pressure up to 2,900 p.s.i.
The machine consists of a main body, painted in gloss white and mounted on a gloss-blue tubular-steel trolley fitted with 8-in.-diameter wheels and a one-hand push bar.
Standard equipment includes a spray gun, 33 ft. of delivery hose, a 20-ft. electrical cable, and two suction- hose/filter assemblies: one 33 ft. long with an 8-mm. bore for handling emul- sion and heavy paints, the other 16 ft. (4.877 m.) long with a 5-mm. hose for thinner, solvent-based paints.
The controls consist of a starter button on the top and a switch with two positions: one for building up paint in the system, and the other for normal spraying. Capable of accepting spray tips up to 0.031 in. (0.79 mm.) in diameter, the spray gun incor- porates a safety lock to protect the trigger from being accidentally operat- ed when the gun has been laid down temporarily.
The makers are J. Wagner, Friedri- chshafen, Fischbach, W. Germany. Agents include: Union Co., Hong Kong; Thaimex, Ltd., Bangkok; Jessen & Jebsen (S) Pte., Ltd., Singapore; and Kim G. H. Co. Ltd., Taipei.
