The site of 240 acres will include 80 shop- houses. It will help cater for Jurong's increasing population which is expected to double in the next ten years.
The Corporation is now calling for tenders for four multi-million dollar recreation projects
a
Chinese garden, a Japanese garden, an 18-hole golf course and a swimming lagoon at Sentosa. Taiwan architect, Mr. River Han is acting as consultant for the Chinese garden.
Final stage of estate to start
The third and final phase of the Kwai Fong low cost housing estate, fifth in the Kwai Chung area of Kowloon, will begin in two months. Tenders have been invited for the construction of three domestic blocks, two estate schools and two kindergartens. When completed in two years, these blocks will house 13,000.
Kwai Fong, costing more than HK$40 million, is being built on reclaimed land by Kwai Chung Road, a new level coastal road linking Kowloon with Tsuen Wan. It will eventually comprise 11 multi-storey blocks, ranging from seven to 20 storeys, with a total of four schools, 96 classrooms and three kindergartens.
The scheme is part of HK Government's overall policy to provide low rent homes for families with incomes up to HK$500 a month in the Kwai Chung Area.
Work to begin on 1,320-bed hospital
Work on the superstructure of the new multi- million dollar Lai Chi Kok general hospital is to begin in April this year. Salt and fresh water mains from the distribution system to the hospital site, site formation and the sub-structure of the main building have been completed, and a 2,000 ft. access road from the main highway is almost ready.
The hospital, an H-shaped structure, is to com- prise three inter-connected blocks, two of 11 storeys and the other of four. It will have 1,320 beds and is expected to receive its first patient in about 30 months.
The main block will contain offices, general medical and surgical rooms. One block will be for patients with infectious diseases and chronic ail- ments needing special care. The other will be general. The casualty unit will be housed in a four- storey block with store rooms, workshops and a mechanical plant.
The basic ward plan for the Lai Chi Kok general hospital is the same as that for the 600-bed Kow- loon Hospital West Wing. It is H-shaped, with the central vertical circulation core linking two ward units, each containing two nursing sub-units of 32 beds, sharing between them one set of ancillary ser- vice rooms.
The hospital is ideally located for residents in
