axle, thus forming a rugged chassis of immense strength and rigidity.

CLEANING GUN

The Volspray air/water spray gun produces a high-pressure jet of water for washing down industrial and con- struction equipment.

Of pistol design, the spray gun has a 10in. long (254 mm) polished alumi- nium barrel terminating in a nozzle, and a 6in. (152 mm) grip fitted with a

3/8in. (9.5 mm) BSP connector for water from a mains source and a 5/8in. diameter (16 mm) hose stem for con- nection to a compressed air supply. Pressures up to 150 p.s.i. (10.546 kg. per sq. cm.) may be utilised.

A knurled knob at the end of the body behind the grip adjusts the volume of water entering the barrel and acts as an on/off control. The compressed air increases the force of the water-mains pressure and atomises the water to a fine spray.

The makers are Volspray Ltd., Crabtree Manorway, Belvedere, Erith, Kent, UK.

CLEARING RAKE

Available for Caterpillar track-type tractors from the D4 to the D8, the Fleco clearing rake is one solid weld- ment with exceptional rigidity and

strength. Alloy steel plates protect the radiator and mounting areas and mounting points are recessed into the frame of the rake.

The high-strength steel teeth are spaced to permit loose soil to sift through. Heat-treated forged steel is used for the wear tips which are secured by positive expansion pins that are easily removed with a hammer or punch. The rake is curved to roll the load and keep it ‘alive'.

Fleco Corp., PO Box 2370, Jack sonville, Florida, USA, are the makers. Agents are: The China Engineers Ltd., Hong Kong; Tractors Malaysia Ltd., Singapore, and U.S. Industries Philip pines, Inc., Manila.

CONCRETE MIXER

A fully-mounted cement mixer, to fit most makes of tractor, is powered by the tractor power take-off with drive being transferred from the shaft to the drum by heavy-duty chain and sprocket.

Capacity of the machine is 91⁄21⁄2 cu. ft. but the optimum amount for speedy mixing is approximately 6 cu. ft. Tipping is carried out by operating the tractor hydraulics with the mixer rotating. If necessary the mixer can be operating on the rear of the tractor while moving between the material centre and the site. It can then be manoeuvred to the exact position for unloading.

The tipping action also unables mixed concrete to be tipped into a wheel barrow when the drum is at 40 degrees from the horizontal position.

Lawrence Edwards & Co. (En- gineers) Ltd., Stourport Road, Kidder- minster, UK, are the makers.

VIBRATORY ROLLER

An automotive steering drive axle fitted with rubber-tyred wheels replaces the usual pair of smooth steering rolls at the rear of a new self-propelled vibratory roller developed by Aveling- Barford Ltd., Grantham, Lincs., UK.

The roller, called the VP, makes use of its massive frame section to carry the engine, transmission and steering

force of 32,000 lb. Overall weight of the roller is 16,500 lb.

Aveling-Barford distributors in- clude: Malayan Development Machin- ery, Ltd., Kuala Lumpur; Gilman & Co. Ltd., Hong Kong; and Ua Withya Phanit Co. Ltd., Bangkok.

MAST CRANE

Following two years of design work, the George Cohen 600 Group Ltd., Wood Lane, London, W. 12, have introduced the Jones 1080 series of crawler, mobile and truck-mounted mast cranes.

Safety has been the paramount feature of the range which, as part of the standard equipment, includes hoist limit switches with automatic fail-safe cut-out on the hoist line; a mast derricking limit switch with automatic

fail-safe cut-out; positive mast back- stops; fly boom derricking limit switches with positive fail-safe cut-out on maximum and minimum radius position; and automatic fail-safe spring-set brakes on the main hoist winch, mast derricking winch, fly boom derricking winch and travel.
