STAINLESS STEEL

A British company has perfected a system of marrying stainless steel to cores of such materials as aluminium and polyurethane foam.

Windows, door and wall panels are the most obvious uses for the com- posites. The durability and corrosion- resistance of stainless steel plus the rigidity of the core materials will put such components among the most valuable developments for use in build- ing of the future.

Aluminium extrusions and polyure thane foam are easily and inexpensive- ly produced in complex shapes which make them ideal material on to which thin guage

durable stainless steel facings can be applied. External facing profiles, edge details, core thicknesses and internal facings can be varied to meet precise performance require- ments. There is also flexibility in widths and lengths of panels and methods of jointing and fixing.

COPYING MACHINE

The R2 3D electrostatic book copier makes use of a flat-bed expo- sure plate to produce copies from originals of any thickness. It can de- liver 17 copies a minute up to a maximum size of 11 by 17 in. and requires no initial warm-up period.

The unit incorporates a top- mounted assembly consisting of a pair

of tracks on which is mounted a sliding glass platen, shielded by a flexible rubber cover. To make a copy, the operator places a document on the glass platen, replaces the rubber cover over the document and switches on

the machine. The platen then moves along the track, passing over a scan- ning window, and returns to its ori- ginal position.

A dial on one side of the machine makes it possible for the operator to choose any number of copies up to 15, which the machine then makes auto- matically. An automatic quality con- trol ensures consistent level of re- production, and a series of photo- electric cells designed to trigger a built-in guilllotine cuts the copy paper to the exact length of the original.

As a further refinement, the machine has a device when allows it to be adjusted so that it copies any pre-set length up to the maximum 17in., regardless of the size of the original. This makes provision for small segments to be reproduced from a more lengthy original.

VENTILATOR

New centrifugal wall ventilators with airflow capacities from 100 to 2725 c.f.m. have been announced by

extruded aluminium frames and blades. Mounting may be flush with the wall, in-wall or in-duct. Round butterfly-type dampers are also avail- able for installation in round duct.

CARPETS

Two new carpets, specifically pro- duced for contract installation, have been brought out by Marley the plastic tile company.

One is Titan a nylon cloth tufted into polypropylene in a level, low loop pile and backed with a high density latex foam. Made on a 1/10in. gauge, the yarn weight is about 20 oz. per sq. yd. There are five widths and 12 colourways, each a mottled two or three-tone blend.

Normal installation is by the use of two sided tape, or an all-over adhesive can be used.

The second carpet is called Marley- weave and is made of a yarn consisting

of 50 per cent. Fifty Denier Evlan, 35 per cent Fifteen Denier Evlan and 15 per cent nylon. The weight of this yarn is about 27 oz. per sq. yd.

The backing cloth is polypropylene with waffled latex foam, providing a non-slip carpet which needs no separ- ate underlay.

tive and functional cladding of all types of buildings.

Of all-steel construction, the units have logarithmic spiral-shaped blades which are said to generate less noise than other conventional type wheels.

Fan wheels are statically and dy- namically balanced separately and the entire unit is balanced after final as- sembly. The units can be easily field painted over the enamel primer to blend with any building decor.
