FLOODLIGHT

Portable Unit Can be Assembled by One Man

AN area 100 ft. by 40 ft. can be floodlit by a new self-contained unit that can be wheeled from place to place by one man. It is only 481⁄2 in. long, 284 in. wide and 34 in. high overall in its transportable state and houses within its zinc-coated steel body a diesel engine, generator, auto- matic battery charger, starter battery, sectioned mast and a weatherproofed tungsten iodine lamp with an output of 1,500 watts.

An inexperienced operator can as- semble the mast, fit the lamp, raise

the mast, start the engine and switch on the light in less than five minutes.

The mast has a height of 141⁄2 ft. and is in four sec- tions. The base sec- tion is of steel and the others of al- uminium. It is rais- ed and lowered by a hand winch and can be set at any angle between hori- zontal and vertical.

Mounted on rub- ber cushions to isolate the main frame and mast from vibration the engine alternator assembly delivers 2KVA. There are outlet sockets for 110V and 220V, each fitted with over- load protection, from which power tools requiring up to 500VA can be operated. Both sockets can be used at the same time.

Translite

The unit, designed to withstand ex- tremes of weather, has two pneuma- tic-tyred wheels and four stabilising drop stands. There are fold-down handles for moving it about.

Transunits Ltd., Lysons Avenue, Ash Vale, near Aldershot, Hants, UK, are the makers.

DUCTING SYSTEM

Thin-walled, Insulated Aluminium Coil

A LOW-COST ducting material suit- able for both heating and air-condi- tioning applications has been develop-

Sidewinder ducting

ed by Vulcan Industries Ltd., P.O. Box 110, Burwood, Victoria, Australia.

Called Sidewinder, it is a thin- walled, insulated aluminium coil, con- taining thousands of tiny perfora- tions. As air circulates through the ducting, noise is absorbed by the per- forations. This means that air may be moved at higher speeds than with conventional galvanised ducting, greatly reducing temperature loss.

The aluminium's reflectivity further reduces heat loss and the ducting may be simply bent around obstructions without restricting air flow. Produced in diameters of 4 in. upwards, the ducting is insulated with thick thermal fibreglass wool, enclosed in a sleeve of heavy-duty polythene.

Further information is available from the makers, who are also ready to market the manufacturing machin- ery. They invite applications from prospective sales agents and organisa- tions interested in local manufacture under licence.

SKETCHING PEN

Variable for Fine or Bold Strokes

VARIATIONS in line thickness from fine tracery to bold strokes can be made without loss of ink flow with a new type of sketching fountain pen developed by E. S. Perry Ltd., Osmi- roid Works, Gosport, Hants., UK.

The pen, known as the Osmiroid Sketchpen, has a three-piece ink feed on which the stainless steel nib is mounted, and the nib itself has a sad- dle reservoir across its top.

The ink feed regulates the flow ac- cording to demand and the reservoir supplements the flow at times of ex- ceptional demand, such as when

long bold outlines are being drawn. Completely separate channels for air and ink in the feed prevent inter- ruption of ink flow by air locks. The pen is filled simply by turning a knob at the end of the barrel. A trans- parent section of the body close to the nib shows when the ink is run- ning low.

Further information is available from the makers.

INTERCOM SYSTEM

Provides Communication and Door Control

A TRANSISTORIZED intercom system developed by the Builder Products Division of Emerson Electric Co., 8100 Florissant Avenue, St. Louis, Mo., USA, meets the security and communication needs of apartment blocks.

In addition to providing commu- nication between the foyer and each apartment, the system also offers ef- fective door control. Identified visi- tors are permitted entry when a but- ton is depressed on the apartment station, unlocking the foyer door.

The foyer directory, containing a 45 ohm speaker and space for as many as 10 name cards and push but- tons, is available in several finishes with matching mailboxes. Additional directory panels, containing up to 14 name cards and push buttons each can be supplied.

The brushed aluminum face plate of the apartment station can also be In addi- ordered in special finishes.

tion to a door button, the apartment station contains a rocker type talk - listen switch to allow conversation with a visitor. The visiting guest is announced by a buzzer. Each apart- ment has individual intercom volume control, with automatic "switch-off" to prevent monitoring by other stations.

DOOR FIXING

No Screws Visible When Fixed

THE Monobolt anodized aluminium door fixing has an exclusive action which assists closing warped or twist- ed doors.

It has no visible screws when fixed, a substantial body to hold when be- ing operated and a concealed spring- loaded ball to hold the shoot in any position, open or closed; this also pre-
