Soil Compaction and Pavement Breaking Unit
THE WABCO mobile hammer, pro- duced by Westinghouse Air Brake Co.'s Le Roi Division, Sidney, Ohio, USA, has a hydraulically raised weight to which can be attached a complete set of interchangeable tools.
Designed for soil compaction and pavement breaking, the unit can also be used for asphalt scoring, frost breaking, and post driving.
The machine is powered by a Le Roi D-226 petrol engine. This in- dustrial engine has replaceable wet overhead sleeves and
valves with stellite exhaust valves, and inserts. A vane-type dual hydraulic pump is directly driven from the engine crank- shaft.
Travel of the hammer is through a hydraulic creeper drive with speeds to 40 ft. per minute in addition to a mechanical transmission which pro- vides travel speeds to 30 m.p.h.

the overall height of the headbox assembly and dispenses with the need for a separate thrustbearing for carrying the transmission shaft. thereby reducing maintenance.
In its redesigned form, drive to the pump is taken from an electric motor with a hollow spindle, the transmission shaft to the pump being carried up through the motor shaft to a coupling at the top of the motor; the thrust- bearing which carries the weight of the shaft and the impel- lers is incorporated in the motor design.
Alternative methods of drive available are direct motor drive through a solid shaft, horizontally-mounted right-angle drive from a petrol or diesel en- gine through a bevel- led gear-box, combin- ed right-angle gear and motor drive, and vertical pulley drive.

SUITABLE for use by small and me- dium size companies engaged on road or highway construction, the model 220 Super Vibro Spreader-Finisher has a capacity of 8 tons of bitumen.
It is a three axle, self propelled machine with synchronised ten for- ward and two reverse speed transmis- sion, and a site to site speed of up to 181⁄2 m.p.h.
The machine is sold and delivered with a permit which allows it to travel on public roads, and since its operational width is 8 ft. it com- plies with interna- tional highway re- gulations.
Totally enclosed, the bitumen is fed by means of con- veyor belt to a two valve hopper and distribution guide

VIBRATOR
New Unit is Lighter but More Powerful
PRODUCTION of a 14 h.p. con- crete vibrator which is 25 per cent lighter than their previous 1 h.p. model is announced by Stow Manu- facturing Co., 627 Shear Street, Bing- hampton, New York, USA.
This new model 130E vibrator has a universal motor mounted on a skid base that also acts as a handle and protector for the motor. The flexible shaft is made of % in. diameter high- speed type core which rotates inside a flexible casing, is lined with oil- tempered spring steel, reinforced with wire braid, and covered with an oil-

resistant, neoprene-impregnated fabric and abrasion-resistant rubber jacket.
Eight different vibrator heads are available. Four are % in., 14 in., 1% in and 2 ft. x 10 in. long round heads. The other four heads are the same diameter and length but have four fins around the outside which results in about double the vibration efficiency.
These new heads have an eccentric weight, mounted in special high-speed duplex ball bearings at each end, and a high-speed shaft seal that retains oil lubricant for life.
