for worshippers to keep their shoes.
Apart from the mosque building and the adjoining hall, there is the mausoleum, which is not part of the main building. It is circular in shape and has burial space for seven nation- al heroes.
The circular floor has a raised cen- tre piece decorated with the national emblem and flowers carved out of marbles from Langkawi, an island north of the Malaya peninsula near Penang. Directly above the centre piece is a gold rosette which hangs from the centre of the dome. The mausoleum has a pleated concrete roof whose edges touch the ground.
Behind the grand hali dome are the libraries, offices for the Imam and staff and a small room for the Yang di-Pertuan Agong or Ruler to retire to before or after prayer. This Royal ante-chamber adjoins the grand hall on the west side. It has lavishly decorated inner walls and is fully air- conditioned.
The mosque, surrounded by pools, is placed in an ornamental garden setting. A wide space is provided for car parking and the whole area is enclosed by concrete walls and fencing.
