Since the scheme was initiated a fifth floor for additional car parking has been provided at the request of the Hong Kong Government. On this upper deck will be a plant room and a steel framed structure to carry advertising signs.

Abnormal site

For about a third of the length of the pier the bed rock stratum has followed no predictable contours and surface bed rock might be encounter- ed at one point whereas a pile driven 12 ft. away might reach a penetration of some 20 ft. without obstruction.

These very abnormal stratum variations have called for consider- able underwater work by divers and the use of explosives to obtain the required penetration, In some cases it has been necessary to drill the bed rock and grout in high tension steel anchor bars to obtain fixity for the bottoms of the cylinders.
