THE optimimum utilisation of space is always an important art in Hong Kong. For the Government's new Technical Institute at Morrison Hill it was a vital necessity.

A site of only 44,360 sq.ft., front- ing on to the new Oi Kwan Road and adjacent to Wood Road Technical School, was available for the facility. On this, the architects were called upon to provide places for about 1,300 full-time students or the equi- valent in block-release or part-time day-release students. Within the building provision is made for 13 teaching classrooms, four lecture theatres, administrative and staff offices, the assembly hall with stage, common rooms and canteen, four drawing offices, an air-condition- ed visual aids room and cinema, library and exhibition area in a general facili- ties sector, while in the technical sec- tor there are 22 specialised workshops,
