Tallest building Asia

Plans for building the tallest building in Asia have been announced by the semi-government Bangkok Inter-Continental Hotel Co.

flyover. It also allows for a road along the west- ern boundary of Victoria Park to connect the coastal road to the Causeway Road and Yee Woo Road junction. When the area is fully developed, the Board envisages it will be populated by about 100,000.

A director of the company, Lt. Gen. Chalerm- chai Charuvaetr, said last month that the company had a five to seven year project to erect the build- ing which would be 40 to 50 storeys high. The building would include offices, apartments and res- taurants and there would be a large shopping ar- cade nearby. The total cost is estimated at about US$25 million.

American architects, Louis Berger Inc. have been appointed to prepare the plans.

HDB to spend S$24 m on land

Some S$24 million is allowed in the Singapore Housing and Development Board's budget for next year for urban renewal land acquisition, mostly in the northern and southern precincts of the city.

A new outline zoning plan for Central District produced by Hong Kong's Town Planning Board marks out four large areas for private development, three for commercial use and one for commercial and residential use. Two are located east and west of Cotton Tree Drive, and two on the reclamation to the west of the Star Ferry concourse.

Maintenance and repairs of buildings are es- timated to cost S$5,693,800, while $$3,764,000 has been earmarked for the management of hou- sing estates and land.

One tenth of the area is reserved for public open spaces and an area of nine acres between Har- court Road and Queensway east of Cotton Tree Drive is subject to detailed planning to include Government, institution, community and utility uses and multi-storey car parks.

The Board also expects to spend $$29,366,500 on the East Coast reclamation project and S$2,867,600 on the Kallang reclamation scheme. The setting up of flatted factories for the Ju- rong Town Corporation is expected to cost S$3,657,000, while the Jurong New Town housing scheme will involve some S$3,135,000.

Open space between the Star Ferry and Vehicle Ferry piers will incorporate a wide pedestrian way to link the two concourses and pro- vide access to a future bus terminus.

The Board has also com- pleted an outline zoning plan for the Causeway Bay district of Hong Kong. Covering an area of 351 acres, it envisages little change in the built-up areas or private and public open space.
