The quarters consist of one four- storey block with 32 medium cost two- and three-bedroom flats and one six-storey block with 72 low cost one- room units.

Maintenance-free

The different provisions in each block reflect the various categories of staff tenants within the film studio. The executive type flats with' three bedrooms have first class finishes, ser- vants quarters and car parks. The flats for the lower salaried staff comprise one large room capable of being sub- divided into two rooms for family occupancy. Finishes in the one-room units are minimal but practical and are relatively maintenance-free for the unusually high demands associated with dormitory type of occupancy.

Originally the lower block was to contain only three-bedroom units, but this was later revised, at the client's request, to two three-bedroom units (710 sq.ft.) and six two-bedroom units (567 sq.ft.) on each floor. Faced with the problem of designing a reasonably luxurious unit within a small room area, the architects experimented with the unconventional application of one- directional teak strip flooring, which
