DEVELOPMENT of the Shaw Bro- thers studios site in the New Terri- tories of Hong Kong as a filmland township and self-contained com- munity has been taken a stage further with the recent completion of two dormitory blocks for the studio staff.

Though sited in close proximity to the main studio buildings the quarters area has been given its own residential environment both in the general lay- out and in the interior setting of the units.

The buildings have been interre- lated within the site, with the pro- minent services elements such as the guard house and an elevated footpath executed in a similar finish to the structures, i.e. fair face concrete, in order to act as connecting forms be- tween buildings on the site. In this way a closely knit residential environ- ment has been created and adequate open space has been allowed between
