GENERATING SETS Lightweight and Portable for Site Use

Two lightweight generating sets, small enough to be carried in the boot of a car, yet powerful enough to run small power tools or traffic lights, have been added to the Armourlite range.

Both have dual voltage adaptability and can be switched quickly from 110 to 220 volts. The plug and socket arrangements used are of the type chosen to suit the requirements of a typical construction site.

The smaller of the two new sets is the DA 512K. It has a Petter diesel engine and generates 1.75 KVA enough to run a pistol drill and eight 100 watt lamps. The second new set

is the PA 912K, a 2 KVA generator powered by a Honda petrol engine. Both can be equipped with undergear for towing.

ABLE to move a payload of 15 tons. the new Foden 131⁄2 cu. yd. dump- truck is based on the company's 21- ton model.

Front tyres are 14.00 by 20. 20 ply rating and rear tyres 23 by 21 Super Low Profile Goodyear. These can carry 24 tons gross, operating at pressures of 65 p.s.i. to give high flotation for soft ground conditions. Power steering is fitted.

In order to increase the payload the centre of gravity of the load has had to be moved forward and the front axle, which is rated at 8 tons. is now fitted with Aeon rubber helper

springs, while the rear springs are of new design and incorporate frame brackets with floating shackles as used on eight wheeler rear springs.

The basic frame is 12in. by 4in. by 8 in. pressed section channel fitted with a main crossmember which is attached to a flitch plate which ex- tends from the rear end of the frame to well beyond the front spring rear brackets.

The body, which is 11 cu. yd. struck capacity, 13 cu. yd. heaped. is constructed from heat treated Duçol steel and pressed channel sec- tion framework. Standard engine is the Gardner 6LX.

Improved Hydraulic Pump Output Increases Capacity

improvements over the existing model. Most important of these is a hydraulic pump which gives a greater output and permits a higher operating pressure. This results in an increased break-out force and lifting capacity, for the 11⁄2 cu. yd. bucket, of 18,500 and 9,000 lb.

As well as an improved hydraulic pump, the FL/8 has a 4-stroke diesel engine with a net flywheel h.p. in- creased to 85 by means of changes in the camshaft and injection-pump plunger design. Since these also raise the maximum torque to 267 ft. lb.. the transmission and final drive com- ponents have been strengthened to handle the additional torque.

The track rollers, support rollers and front idlers are now all per- manently lubricated, and the track rollers are made in a larger diameter of a special manganese-alloy steel which allows a greater and more uni- form depth of hardening. All rollers are mounted in steel plates running inside the track frames to eliminate the possibility of damage to the frame through stripped threads and sheared- off bolts.

Power boosting, formerly applied to the steering clutch disengagement only, has now been extended to cover brake application. A single lever con- trols both operations, first disengag- ing the clutch and then applying the brakes. The tractor-shovel moves in five forward speeds from 1.7 to 6.2 m.p.h. and five reverse speeds from 1.9 to 6.9 m.p.h.

THE Wickham Mark Va twin pas- senger/goods hoist is self-erecting, can be extended at a rate of 18 ft. an hour to a maximum height of 700 ft. and can carry up to 24 men or two tons of materials at a speed of 200 f.p.m.

The hoist is powered by a 15 h.p. three-phase 50 cycle 380 420 volt squirrel cage induc- tion motor and is fitted with a radio- frequency control system.

tower has been eliminated and re- placed by a steel tube mounted on the side of the cage which slides over a nylon covered steel wire fixed under tension between the top and bottom of the tower.
