YING with the City of Manches- ter's planned inner ring road, south of centre, the Mancunian Way is designed so that initially, and in conjunction with the northern arm of the inner ring, traffic will be drawn to these routes rather than to the cen- tral areas of the city.

The main function of this new route will be to act as a distributor between the heavily trafficked radial roads south of the city centre, one of which will form the southerly con- nection between Manchester and the M6 motorway leading to the city of Birmingham and the south.
