FEATURING a hydraulically powered telescoping tool beam, a new Ateco attachment has been developed by American Tractor Equipment Corporation, Oakland, California.
The tool beam, fitted to an Austin- Western P500 motor grader, can be extended 12in. beyond the grader's right rear tyre, allowing the cable to be buried at the shoulder of the road while keeping the grader tyres on the pavement.
Cable of up to 13in. diameter can be buried to depths of 42in. Some 20in. of ground clearance is allowed with the plow in the carrying posi- tion. The shank bracket swivels 30in.
Ateco cable-layer attachment
for easy steering and the shank pitch can be varied to meet changing ground conditions by means of a hydraulic pitch control cylinder.

LOADER
Disc Brakes Fitted on All Four Wheels
A NEW four-wheel-drive tractor
shovel, type 130B, announced by Merton Engineering. Ltd., Feltham, UK, is capable of loading 577 tons of sand or broken rock an hour.
The 137 h.p. machine has a 21 cu.yd. standard bucket. Disc brakes fitted on all four wheels are unaffect- ed by wet and can stop the 13-ton fully-loaded machine from 17.5 m.p.h. in only 17 ft.
Power from the standard six-cylin- der Leyland diesel is transmitted through a hydraulic torque converter and planetary reduction hubs, giving three speeds forward and reverse with a top speed of about 25 m.p.h.
Merton 130B tractor shovel Operation is by means of a pneuma- tic/hydraulic servo system supplied by an engine-driven compressor and reservoirs.
Specification of the machine in- cludes: maximum lift, 12ft. Selection of Gear in Full Power
AS AN alternative to the standard mechanical gearbox, the Allison CT 3440 Torqmatic power-shift trans- mission is now fitted in the Aveling- Austin Super 500 motor grader.
This permits selection of a different gear while the engine is transmitting full power, so eliminating interrup- tion to the work cycle. Incorporat- ing single stage torque converter and epicyclic gear trains controlled by hydraulically operated plate clutches, the CT 3440 gives four foward
speeds, maximum 23 m.p.h., and two
reverse.
The unit is direct mounted to the engine and connected through a pro- peller shaft to a single speed trans- fer box from which drive is carried to both front and rear wheels.

ROTADRILL
Truck-mounted Unit Reaches 1,500 ft. Depth
LATEST development in dual pres- sure drill rigs by Schramm, Inc., West Chester, Penn., USA, is a truck-mounted unit, the model T64H-B Rotadrill, for drilling 4in. to 7in. blast holes and water wells to a depth of 1,500 ft.
For hard, abrasive formations the rig furnishes 425 c.f.m. of air at 250 p.s.i. to operate high pressure bottom-hole tools, giving high drill- ing rates. When used in average formations with drag or tri-cone bits for rotary drilling the machine provides 500 c.f.m. at 20 p.s.i. It will also produce 475 c.f.m. at 100 p.s.i. for operation of standard bot- tom-hole tools.
Model T64H-B features a new prime mover, the GM diesel 8V-71N engine. to operate its 02HG Schramm compressor unit. The air is used solely for chip removal. All other components of the rig such as top head rotation drive, chain drive pull pull down, outriggers and mast mechanism are hydraulically power- ed.
The standard vehicle is a model RF-192 International truck but the Ford model T-800 may be used.
