TENDER NOTICE
GOVERNMENT OF MALAYSIA
MINISTRY OF AGRICULTURE AND CO-OPERATIVES DRAINAGE AND IRRIGATION DIVISION
MUDA RIVER PROJECT
It is expected to invite tenders in May or June 1965 for the construction of the five major civil engineering works forming the Muda River Irrigation Project in Kedah State, Malaya.
Interested contractors should apply by 31st March 1965 to the Engineers for the project, Sir William
Halcrow and Partners, 47, Park Lane, London, W.I, England, stating:—
(1) The Contract or Contracts for which they wish to be invited to tender.
(2) General details of the history, scope and turnover of their organization.
(3) Details, including the total cost of each of similar works which they have undertaken.
(4) Their resources in plant and experienced personnel available for these Contracts.
(5) The name of the bank or insurance company which will act as guarantor to the Employer
in respect of the Tender and for performance of the Contract should the applicant submit a Tender which is accepted.
CONTRACT NO. 2- Pedu Dam
BRIFF DETAILS OF CONTRACTS
Estimated Value 30,000,000 Malaysian dollars
(£3,500,000 sterling) (10,000,000 U.S. dollars)
A rockfill dam 700 ft. long by 190 ft. max. height (approx. volume 700,000 cu. yds.), with asphalt membrane on upstream face and with steel and concrete conduits for the discharge of 5,500 cusecs of water for irrigation. The dam is situated on the Pedu River 30 miles east of Alor Star.
The contract also includes a concrete spillweir and earth-fill impounding embankment (approx. volume 30,000 cu. yds.), situated about 4 miles south of Pedu dam.
CONTRACT NO. 3- Saiong Tunnel

Five miles of concrete-lined 15 ft. diameter horseshoe tunnel with intake and outfall structures and channels. The tunnel runs north from the Muda dam into the Pedu basin.

A reinforced concrete dam 600 ft. long by 100 ft. max. height. Situated on the Muda River about 35 miles east of Alor Star.

Twenty-two miles of main irrigation canal, unlined, bed width 30-60 ft., total excavation appro- ximately 4,000,000 cu. yds. including mile in rock cut. The canal runs north from Pelubang (about 10 miles north east of Alor Star).
The contract incluudes ancillary structures such as:—
(a) Seven major and 25 minor bridges 100 ft. to 160 ft. long
(b) Head and intermediate regulators
(d) Construction of two barrages with leaf gates
CONTRACT NO. 7 - Central Canal
Estimated Value 19,000,000 Malaysian Dollars
(£2,200,000 sterling)
(6,200,000 U.S. dollars)
(c) Underpass siphons
Thirty-four miles of main irrigation canal, unlined, bed width 30-80 ft., depth 10-15 ft., total excavation approximately 6,000,000 cu. yds. including ‡ mile in rock cut and 1,000 ft. in concrete-lined rock tunnel. The canal runs south from Pelubang (10 miles north-east of Alor Star)
The contract includes ancillary structures such as:-
(a) Twelve major and 17 minor bridges 100 ft. to 160 ft. long
(b) Head and intermediate regulators
(c) Underpass siphons
