Flexible building system
Tests on a prefabricated building system deve- loped by a Brisbane architect have shown that the panels will withstand winds of 130 m.p.h., making it suitable for tropical areas.
Called the Unison system, it consists of a load bearing panel made up of galvanised steel com- ponents. Sheeting, built according to customer re- quirements, is fixed internally and externally to these frames. The panels are bolted to the roof structure and to a bottom plate and also to each other.
The roof system is pressed metal purlins bolted on the top of the panels, the bottom flanges of the purlins supporting the ceiling panels. Simple lengths of roof sheeting are carried across the pur- lins, screwed to the top flanges, and fixed to each other.
The Unison panels are interchangeable and the buildings are permanent. They may be delivered to site either assembled or broken down into pallet- sized crates.
The system is being marketed by Unison, Re- ginald Street, Rocklea, Queensland.
