It is difficult to assess the intangi- ble benefits of a landscaped office in terms of cash. However, harmonious work environment, increased effi- ciency in workflow and better com- munications between colleagues, rang- ing from the executive staff to the most junior personnel are some of the more obvious.

Flexibility is another intangible which must be borne in mind. Expan- sion is difficult to forecast over 10 years: almost impossible over 50 years. It is an essential, therefore, to plan on a building format that will cater for expansion, retraction and alteration of any department, often at short notice.

Landscaped offices are the only method by which this alteration can be accomplished easily without a great deal of capital expenditure in the pro-

cess.

One conclusion is clear. Unless a landscape office conversion is pro- posed for a room already accom modating no less than 40 persons and with dimensions of around 65ft. square, then a landscape office is best built into a new building. There exist few buildings able to satisfy the stringent requirements necessary to fit the true definition of a landscape office.
