INCE it was organised ten years ago the Hong Kong Baptist Col- lege has helped fulfil a want for post- secondary education for Chinese students. Each year there has been a marked enrolment increase from a freshman class of 152 students in 1956 to an enrolment of more than 1,500 this year.

The need for larger and better equipped premises has now been met with the completion at Waterloo Road, Kowloon Tong, of a new seven-storey home for the college.
This is designed as modern post- secondary school for 1,000 students. with accommodation for 150 living in as boarders. Provision is also made for the addition of two extra storeys to cater for future expansion.
The college site covers about 173,000 sq. ft., in addition to which a further 17,000 sq. ft. has been taken away from a reserve site by setting the building line back 20 ft, and by various slopes and banks.

way along a new road to the north of the site. Facing this loop, the new building, of compact design to make full use of the land, is divided into three blocks forming an elongated H- shape: Administration and library (east block), Arts (central block), and Science (west block).

Space at the rear of the building enclosed by the two wings of the letter H is used as a playground with basket ball and volley ball courts. The surrounding balcony corridors act as a spectators' stand.
A cafeteria
level below the administration block is designed to seat 150 students at one sitting and includes a private dining room for the staff. The kitchen facilities are capable of producing 300 hot meals of a variety of dishes over a lunch-time period.
