Industrialised flats being erected at Kelenfeld, Hungary

A contract has been concluded with the Danish firm of Larsen-Nielsen for the supply of an industrialised fac- tory and the first of six factories ordered from the Soviet Union is already in operation in Budapest. Work on 16 large investment projects in the building and building materials industries was scheduled to start this year, in- cluding the setting up of three new housebuilding factories.

The Budapest factory, now in continuous operation. has a target for 1966 of wall-sized prefabricated units for 2.000 homes. This factory produces 84 different types of prefabricated units suitable for building blocks of flats up to ten storeys high.

Main production is concentrated on four basic units: frontal panels, internal bearing walls, ceiling slabs and partition wall panels. However, the range of units made includes every structural element from stairs and entrance to trussing.

Chair of Landscape Architecture

BRITAIN'S first Chair of Landscape Architecture, sponsor- ed by the Northern Arts and Sciences Foundation, is to be established at Sheffield University.

The chair will be in the faculty of architecture, build- ing science and town and regional planning. Some £5,000 a year is to be given by the foundation for ten years.

This sculptured concrete screen wall constructed at a small housing scheme in West London separates a small playground from a car park. It is 36 ft. long x 10 ft. high x 4 ft. thick. Different coloured mosaics are set into the deep indents. The designer is sculptor Antony Hollaway, ARCA. The wall was cast from an expanded high-density polystyrene mould. built by Modular Concrete Co., Ltd.
