ELEVATORS
AT
1,800 FEET
PER MINUTE!
Hong Kong already has two sets of elevators travelling at 800 feet per minute the Otis units serving the International and Realty Buildings
which dominate the Colony's water front.
However, thanks to Otis research, the world's largest office.
apartment building will soon have elevators travelling at 1,800 feet per minute. This is the John Hancock Centre now under construction in Chicago and expected to be complete in 1968.
The 1,100 foot sky-scraper will have 48 floors of apartments, 28 floors of office space, seven floors of parking area
for 1,200 cars. and commercial stores and shops
Otis will provide the 50 elevators and escalators for this giant building.
The elevators, like those in Hong Kong's International and Realty Buildings,
will be controlled by computers which sense traffic requirements and send elevator cars to where they will be needed ahead of being called.
