WATERPROOFING Thixotropic Plastic Paste Forms Tough Membrane

ROOFS and walls can be given long-term protection by coating with Decade-X, a vinyl copolymer sup- plied as a water-soluble thixotropic paste, ready for direct application. It forms a tough, flexible, membrane that sheds dirt and lasts for many years.

Decade-X can be applied over most building materials, and is made in coating and roofing grades. On new construction it can be used

as a

waterproof membrane, or it may be applied as a sheating on existing slates, tiles, asphalt and other types of roofing, extending to the guttering and fascias if required.

On external and internal walls, it is said to bind and seal crumbling and porous surfaces subject to chemical attack. The cured coating stretches by up to one third, and will therefore accommodate thermal

movement,

The coating is applied with a soft whitewash brush. Absorbent, friable surfaces and masonry require a prior coat of sealer, and bitumen and metal primers are required before coating roofing felts and bare metal. Drying time is 3 to 8 hours on roofs and 1 to 5 hours on walls.

CONCRETE TESTING

Machine Tests Subfloors for Epoxy-based Topping

A SUBFLOOR testing machine has been developed by Tercol Ltd. Shrewsbury Road, Shifnal, Salop.. UK. for testing the strength of con- crete surfaces that are to be covered with an epoxy-based floor topping. It can also be used in a number of other test applications.

A hydraulic-ram actuator is con- nected by flexible hose to a small hand-operated hydraulic pump as- sembly fitted with a pressure gauge. The actuator applies a load to a metal boss bonded to the sub-floor; the load

on the boss is uniformly increased until failure occurs, and is registered on the pressure gauge.

The machine can also be used for testing the adhesion of cured floor toppings, and for carrying out ten- sile and compression tests. With minor modifications, it can perform

a variety of laboratory tests, involv- ing bending and crushing on concrete and other materials.

THE new Classic bathroom suite

comprises washbasin and matching

low-level W.C. suite in Ceramant vitreous china. The washbasin is made in three sizes, 25 in. x 18 in., 22 in. x 16 in. and 20 in. x 16 in.

With deep bowl space in each size and a lower back-skirting, the wash- basin is available for fitting on con- cealed brackets ог complete with matching, newly designed pedestal. It is supplied in white or any of five standard colours.

The matching w.c. suite is a low level unit with an overall height of 37 in. The customary rim bulge has been virtually eliminated to make cleaning easier. The emphasis on clean line and clear surface, is main- tained in the gently tapering flushing tank and in the black plastic seat with plastic hinge mounting.

Weather Resistant 175 W Mercury Light

FOR use where economical wide- beam floodlighting is desired, the new General Electric 175 W internally reflected mercury floodlamp can operate in any position.

The lamp is supplied with a wea- ther resistant R-40 bulb with a medium screw base.

Initial beam output is about 30 lumens per watt. The designed life is about 16.000 hours and the beam spread is 156 degrees.
