the dam to control the water inflow from the reservoir to the penstocks.
The 3.4 metre diameter steel pen- stocks will carry the water to the two hydraulic turbines initially installed in the powerhouse. Three 6-metre dia- meter steel penstocks will carry the water to the future hydraulic turbine installation, but only those parts of the steel penstock which are encased in the mass concrete of the dam will be provided during the initial construc- tion. These partial penstocks will be sealed off by steel bulkheads until additional generating units are in- stalled in the future.
A spillway is located in the abut- ment to the dam on the north side of the riverbed. It will consist of a con- crete gravity overflow section with a chute and flip bucket energy dissi pator. Because control of spillage is not required with the installation of two 15 MW generators, the spillway gates will not be provided in the initial development. However, the ungated concrete spillway will be constructed to receive, in the future, four radial tainter gates. The capacity of the spill. way is 2,670 m3 per second under nor- mal reservoir conditions and 3,820 m3 per second under maximum flood.
An independent reinforced con- crete powerhouse with steel roof trusses is located just off the toe of the
