Singapore considering an underground railway
Mr Alan Choe, head of the Housing and De- velopment Board's Urban Renewal Department in Singapore, says that the island republic may have an underground rapid transit system to cope with future traffic problems. He adds that every effort is being made to promote the idea of an underground tube instead of elevated monorails or other forms of mass transport.
On the related subject of carparking, the urban renewal programme aims to locate multi-storey or underground carparks on the fringe of the city centre. It will also create landscaped pedestrian pro- menades without the intrusion of cars.

The distribution centre will be expanded from 9,000 to 22,000 sq ft.
A white solar screen to reduce heat levels will provide a lattice-like effect on the front of the two-storey, poured-concrete building. The airy look is designed not only for comfort but also to enhance the appearance of the structure in its tropical setting. An unusual feature of the expand- ed building will be a water supply tank built into the roof of the. extension. The tank, which is designed for seismic conditions, will ensure con- tinued operation of the photofinishing laboratory in the event of an interruption in the normal water
