wide two-lane viaducts is supported on a single 6 ft. diameter column, the highest column being about 60 ft. Elsewhere, decks are carried on rigid frames having two 4 ft. 6 in. diameter columns.

Favourable ground conditions and availability of suitable fill material from a nearby development project resulted in a decision to construct as much as possible on earth filled em- bankments. Altogether some 350,000 cu. yd. of fill material is being brought to the site to raise the existing ground level to about 35 ft. in places. Flexible pavement roads will be constructed on the compacted fills.

Four pedestrian subways are in- cluded in the scheme and these are similar to those constructed in the Chatham Road flyover contract.

The contract for this work was awarded to Paul Y Construction Co. Ltd. in March 1970. It is scheduled to be completed in April 1972. The cost of the project is estimated to be HK$13,500,000.

Main quantities

The complete project requires the construction of 60,000 sq. yd. of roads at ground level and on fills to- gether with some 8,000 sq. yd. of
