ceding month. Of the new buildings completed 19 were for domestic purposes, 18 for non-domestic purposes and 29 for combined domestic and non-domestic use. In addition, the Building Authority also approved the de- molition of 22 buildings.
RESETTTLEMENT BLOCKS
Two more 16-storey blocks are to be constructed at the Tsz Wan Shan resettlement estate in Kowloon, Hong Kong, to accommodate about 10,000 people. Work on the blocks and a 24-classroom primary school will begin in September and they should be ready by mid-1969.
Since 1963, accommodation for some 135,000 peo- ple and eight schools, containing 192 classrooms, have been completed within the estate. When the whole estate is finished it will house about 170,000 people and will have 11 primary schools with 264 classrooms.
A spokesman for the Hong Kong Public Works De- partment said last month that 57 resettlement blocks were now in the course of construction. About 4,700,000 cu. ft. of accommodation was being completed each month at a cost of nearly HK$9,000,000.
MEDICAL LIBRARY EXTENSION
WORK is now under way on the construction of an exten- sion to the medical library at the University of Singapore. The site is behind the Faculty of Medicine Building in Sepoy Lines. Parts of the faculty building have been de- molished to make way for the extension.
Ground and mezzanine floors of the new building will house the library extension and the top floor will be a lecture theatre. Temporarily second floor will accommodate the Anatomy Department.

The extension will have 14 study carrells, two group study rooms, one academic study room, a microfilm read- ing room, periodicals room, public ser- vices area housing reference, research and rare materials, and two outdoor library courtyards.
With the completion of the build- ing, the seating capacity for students and staff will be increased by 140 to 260. Increased shelving space will en- able the library to increase its stock of books from 60,000 to 90,000 volumes. Architects for the extension are Chan Kui Chuan.

NEW CONTRACTS
THE Thai Highway Department has awarded a 9.37 mil- lion baht contract to Saha Visavakarn Yotha Co. Ltd., Bangkok. to build a new bridge across the Kanorn Chaisri river in Nakorn Prathom province. Five companies bid for the contract, the highest being 13.4 million baht by Christiani & Nielsen (Thailand) Co. Ltd. The two-lane bridge will be built parallel to the existing Nakorn Chaisri bridge.
HO HOCK SWEE has won the contract to build the 12- storey headquarters building for the Ministry of Educa- tion at Kay Siang Road, Singapore, at a cost of $$2,074,- 680.
THE Japanese company, Nishimatsu Construction Co. Ltd.. has received a contract worth HK$2,020,909 from the Hong Kong Government for the construction of a seawall fronting the Waterfront Road reclamation, Causeway Bay.

MEKONG Development Committee has signed an 8,125,- 000 baht contract with Christiani & Nielsen (Thailand) Ltd. for the construction of a bridge and access road in Thin Kaew village, 80 miles north of Vientianne. The road will lead to the site of the projected multi-purpose dam across the Nam Ngum river.

ALTERATIONS to the existing building at Queen Mary Hos- pital, Hong Kong, are to be carried out by Dah Cheng & Co. at a cost of HK$4,853,082.
