thoroughly embedded in the concrete.

When the partitions and walls have been mounted, the floor slab above is poured. It is 17 cm. thick and im-

mediately gets a 3 cm. screed that is steel-trowelled.

All horizontal electrical conduits as well as heating and sanitary pipes are

embedded in the floor slabs. The ver- tical electrical conduits are embedded in the precast concrete wall elements. Special channel elements are used for the heating and sanitary pipes. When the concrete has reached the required strength, the floor slab form is strip- ped and moved to the storey above, where the whole procedure is repeated.

All elements are load-bearing, yet not reinforced except for a lifting stirrup serving as a transport rein- forcement. On the other hand, the wall elements with door openings (these panels are 2 m. in length) and the channel elements for the ducts (which are normally 30 cm. in thick- ness) are fully reinforced. All these elements are either precast in a tem- porary factory on the site, or manu- factured in a permanent concrete ele- ment factory.

After assembly, the joints between the wall elements are filled with grout.

Licencees

The Skarne heavy building system is now used throughout Europe and in the Middle East. The developers have a subsidiary company in West Germany, partly owned companies in France. West Germany and Libya. and licencees in Scotland, Finland. Italy and Kuwait.

Enquiries have also been made by potential licencees in South East Asia and it is likely that the system will soon be on offer in this area.
