lengths for pendant, ceiling or wall mounting. They allow flexible light- ing layouts for outdoor or indoor installations.

A snap-on, prismatic acrylic plas- tic enclosure is said to provide 98 per cent. light transmission, and is sealed by polyurethane gaskets which withstand temperatures of -30°F to 225°F. A socket assembly provides 11 lb. pressure on lamp con- tacts, and eliminates arcing or short- circuits. The socket is white urea and its housing is die-cast aluminium.

Fixtures are designed for easy in- stallation either singly or tandem mounted with self-contained, low temperature ballasts (-20°F). The lights utilize power groove and other high output lamps. Aluminium hous- ing and die-cast ends are finished in a high gloss, baked white enamel.

TILES

Hand-painted Ranges for Floors or Walls

TWO attractive ranges of Italian ceramic tiles are now available for export through London agents, The Verity-Orient Co., Ltd., 5a Pont Street, S.W.I.

Mostly hand-painted, the tiles may be used on floors or walls. They are made by two firms, one at Vietri sul Mare and the other at Florence.

The Vietri company's range I Pavimenti del Sogno, comprises a wide variety of Neapolitan designs.

Two combinations of Serpenting pattern from Florentine range

The tiles are normally 8 in. x 8 in., but special sizes and designs can be made to order.

Patterns in the standard Vietri range are traditional. Nearly all the designs in the Florentine firm's range, Smalto Rustico Toscano, are, on the other hand, highly inventive. The biscuit is standard, and traditional Tuscan glazing methods are used, producing a medium gloss.

The colours, colour combinations and patterns depart however from Florentine tradition, being designed for incorporation in contemporary- style decorative schemes. These tiles are of three types: Normali, which is plain. Fantasia, in which the colours are intermingled, forming abstract patterns; and Decorati, in which definable motifs are used. The rough surface textures lend opales- cence to the colours, many of which

are mixed together with exciting effect. Most of the designs are made in sizes 4 in. by 8 in., 8 in. by 8 in., 10 in. by 10 in. and 5 in. by 10 in.

components are of glass-filled nylon. Only non-plastic component is а brass float lever, located above water level in the top of the casing.

Complete immunity is thus given to any form of corrosive attack.

WALL SAWING

Diamond Blade Cuts to 15 in. Depth

A WALL sawing unit capable of making cuts up to 15 in. deep has been developed by the UK firm, Concrete Sawing Equipment, Ltd. It is designed for making openings for windows and doors, where excessive reinstatement is to be avoided.

The equipment comprises a cutting head fitted with a diamond impreg- nated saw blade direct driven from

a

Vickers Sperry Rand hydraulic motor, mounted in a 7 ft. 6 in. long steel guide frame.

During use, the frame is bolted to the wall and the head moved along the face of the wall by manually controlled lead screw. Down feed of

blade into the wall is also controlled by hand screw.

Power for the motor is provided by a variable delivery piston type hydraulic pump, giving an infinitely variable motor spindle speed of 0-2,000 r.p.m. Drive is by an 18 h.p. air cooled petrol cr:gine. The power unit may be positioned up to 45 ft. away from the saw, enabling it to be used in confined locations.

Export enquiries should be address- ed to the company at Hanworth Lane, Chertsey, UK.

DOOR OPENER

Hydraulic Lines inside Door Frame

A DOOR opener which fits within a 1 in. x 4in. header is completely concealed to preserve the clean lines of the building entrance.

Hydraulic

power is supplied through flow lines which pass inside the door frame to an electrically operated power unit The unit may be placed in any location up to 50 ft. from the operator.

Named Hydra-Swing, the opener is completely adjustable for opening speed and opening check. A special panic device enables an “in” door to
