DUMPER

High-discharge Attachment Dumps at Height of 5 ft.

A HIGH-DISCHARGE skip attachment, now available for use with the 30- cwt. Tusker dumper, has been design- ed for pouring concrete into free- standing crane skips or over forms on building sites. It holds 22 cu. ft. of material, when filled to the water level, and dumps at a height of 5 ft.

Made of 3/16 in. steel plate throughout, the skip is pivoted well forward to allow clearance for tip- ping, which is achieved by means of two hydraulic cylinders.

A Tusker chassis fitted with this at- tachment measures 8 ft. 10 in. long by 5 ft. 7 in. wide by 5 ft. 61⁄2 in. high. Powered by an 11 h.p. twin- cylinder Petter diesel engine, it travels

TAMPER

Produces 4,000 lb. Impact

at 2400 v.p.m.

STOW Manufacturing Co., Shear Street. Binghampton, New York, USA, are marketing an 18 in. plate tamper with an impact of 4,000 lb. at 2.400 vibrations per minute.

The T51A tamper has a 31⁄2 quart petrol tank located on the handle to separate it from the machine's vibration. This also allows gravity

feed for the fuel, a fine screen being provided at the tank to prevent for- eign matter from getting into the car- buretor.

A combination plate gives the operator a choice of two tamping sur- faces, one 3 in. wide and the other 5 in. wide (front to back). On some soils such as sand, where the 3 in sur- face may not be large enough for the tamper to propel itself ahead very fast, the operator merely tips the tam- per ahead slightly so that it rides on the 5 in. surface. The T51A will walk along at speeds up to 90 ft. per minute while tamping up to 8,100 sq. ft. per hour

The handle of the machine uses the torsion bar suspension principle at two points as well as four additional rubber mounts to isolate vibration from the operator. The 6 h.p. Wis- consin engine has a special carbure- tor and an oil impregnated air clean- er. A centrifugal clutch allows the engine to be started up without vibra- tion.

EXCAVATOR

Fitted to Any Tractor in Ten Minutes

A HYDRAULIC excavator developed by Brown Brothers, Ltd.. Glasgow. U.K. will fit almost any type of crawler tractor in the 50 h.p. to 70 h.p. range. Coupling or uncoupling of the unit from a tractor takes less than ten minutes.

The excavator, normally supplied with a 1⁄2 cu. yd. bucket, does not in-

terfere with track oscillation and in the travelling position its centre of gravity is within the track length of the vehicle.

No stabilisers are required, as the main frame rests on the ground when digging is in progress. Location of the excavator relative to the crawler track allows excavation alongside walls and work on existing trenches to be carried out without risk of col- lapse.

Standard digging depth is 14 ft., maximum digging depth 16 ft. 6 in. and dump height is 15 ft. Three dig- ging cycles can be carried out in one minute at full depth. Theoretical out- put is 180 to 270 cu. yd. per hour. Lifting capacity with the frame lower- ed is 21⁄2 tons.

ROCK DRILL

Suitable for Wet or Dry Drilling

A LIGHTWEIGHT

rock drill intro- duced by Holman Bros. Ltd., Cam- borne, Cornwall, UK. replaces their model SL 9D.

The new tool, known as the SL 9G Handril, is suitable for wet or dry

drilling, giving fast penetration in holes up to 12 ft. in depth.

Improvements in the new machine include throttle in- stead of exhaust control blowing. and

a cylinder washer type mount tor inclined drill- ing. Conversion from wet to dry drilling and vice is simple. An innovation on the dry model is constant blowing through the drill steel.

Drilling speed of the SL 9G is ap- proximately 10 per cent, faster than that of the earlier model.
