in natural anodised aluminium and have quarry tile cills and the doors are teak with an oiled finish.
Around the base of the building is a low wall built up of richly coloured stone laid dry. Particular care has been taken with the landscaping around the building. The courtyards are turfed and the garden areas are planted informally with a variety of trees and shrubs, and bamboo.
Internally, the building has been

designed to provide maximum ease of movement for the patients and to create a pleasant and spacious at- mosphere. Corridors are wide to allow for wheelchair traffic and are lit by glass dome lights set into the roof.
The classrooms and domitories are spacious and receive a high level of natural daylight from the large windows which open оп to the courtyards. Throughout the building handrails have been built into the walls wherever possible: doors are wide and are fitted with push plates or pull handles instead of the normal lever handled latch sets.
Finishes have been selected with a view to keeping maintenance at a
minimum. Walls and ceilings are plastered and finished with emulsion paint: floors are covered in vinyl tiles with an embossed pattern to reduce the likelihood of slipping: timberwork is oiled teak: floors in bathrooms and around the hydro- therapy pool are ceramic mosaic tiled with non-slip surfaces where neces- sary: and walls in these areas are tiled with glazed ceramic tiles.
