NEW
ROOF LINING
Flame - Proof PVC Material
WHAT is claimed to be the first p.v.c. roof lining material that is flame- proof has been launched by the Fablon Division of Commercial Plastics, Ltd., Berkeley Square, Lon- don, W.1.
Known as Fablon 1075, it is a 7 thou. p.v.c. sheeting which does not spread flame and does not tear when wet. It is extremely flexible and difficult to puncture.
A roll of 1075 contains 62 sq. yd. of material and weighs 32 lb. An

EXTRACTOR
Vertical Discharge of Contaminated Air
A NEW extractor unit for discharging contaminated air above roof level is moulded from glass fibre and polyester resin. The makers are Brooks Ventilation Units, Ltd., Bedford Park, Croydon, Surrey, UK.
Seven sizes are produced for pro- peller or axial flow fans of 9in. to 38 in. diameter. Capacities range from 800 to 23,000 cu. ft. a minute and pressures may be up to 1 in. w.g. The Vertical-Jet unit can be fitted to any type of roof. An integral skirt in the base ensures a weather- proof installation, Automatic plastic shutters close when the fan is swit- ched off to prevent heat loss. Stainless steel assemblies nylon bearings are fitted to ensure that the unit is capable of withstand- ing corrosive atmospheres. Fans are made in flameproof or bifurcated form and can be treated for opera-

CONCRETE CURING
Poster Shows the Best Methods
THE whys and hows of curing concrete are clearly displayed on an 8 in. by 11 in. placard available free from The Master Builders Co., Ltd., Toronto 15, Ontario, Canada.
Since lack of adequate moist curing can result in loss of half the potential strength and wear of con- crete, the subject is an important one. The illustrated poster informs site personnel of the methods used for proper curing.
It covers the effects of temperature on curing and describes many curing techniques, including water spray, damp burlap, waterproof paper and membrane curing compounds.
DOOR
German Design Made in Hong Kong
A WARP-PROOF
door, patented in West Germany, is now being made
under licence in Hong Kong by Spiro-foam Panel Door Industries, Ltd., 90 Chung- king Mansion, 2nd. Floor, Na- than Road, Kow- loon.
It has a core of coiled strips of wood, placed side by side and sand- wiched between two framed veneer panels. The strips are planed from

prepared plank, 12in. wide. They are about 1/16in. thick and the dia- meter of the coil is about 3in.
Teak and luan plywood veneers are used as the panels. They are bonded with water-resistant glue to the door frame and the strips under a hot-press of 240 tons.
A special fire-proof door, capable of withstanding two hours of fire, is being developed to meet local regula- tions. This comprises solid fitted planks with a sheet of asbestos be- tween the outer veneers. Doors with glass panels and louvres, in four basic styles, are also being made.
The standard sizes being made, all with a depth of 14in., are: 6ft. by Ift. 6in., 6ft. 6in. by 1ft. 9in., 6ft. 9in. by 2ft., 6ft. 10in. by 2ft. 3in., and 7ft. by 2ft. 6in.
HOLLOW SECTION Rectangular Shape has High Strength to Weight Ratio
SQUARE and rectangular hollow steel sections made by British steel tube manufacturers, Stewarts and Lloyds, Ltd., are now available in South East Asia.
They have high strength to weight ratio and are a basic component of the CLASP school construction sys- tem. The larger sizes are well suited

to multi-storey construction, making columns which are easily clad with lightweight fire-resistant materials.
Concrete filling can double their load bearing capacity, and thought is being given to their use in pre- stressed steelwork, since cables could be placed inside the tension chords.
RHS has torsional strength superior to all forms of open section and, due to its "double web" has greater shear strength than conven- tional sections.
The range of RHS is made in two steel grades mild steel and high yield stress (welding quality) structural steel. Two size ranges are available in a wide variety of peripheries and wall thicknesses: hot finished welded range covering squares (and equiva- lent rectangles) in. x in. x .072in.
