Tung Wah and Associated Hospitals—

$1,667,300, revision of staff salaries.

University of Hong Kong Pathology services-

$236,200, increased number of laboratory tests for Queen Mary Hospital patients and proposed purchase of new laboratory equipment.

The Special Expenditure overall total of $3,523,100 is $1,160,100 more than the approved estimate of $2,363,000 for 1968-69. This increase is due mainly to the following:

Pok Oi Hospital—

a capital grant of up to $586,000 for the building of new minor staff quarters, laundry, stores, kitchen and mortuary.

Tung Wah and Associated Hospitals-

$481,000 for special hospital equipment, instruments, office equipment, etc., which is shown separately under special expenditure for the first time.

Wong Tai Sin Infirmary, Phases II and III—

an increase of $244,700 for the completion of the second and third phases of the Infirmary.

Recurrent subventions for 1969-70 show an increase of $1,736,700 or 17% over the approved estimates for 1968-69. This is accounted for largely by a general expansion in the activities of subvented agencies, by increased salaries which are reflected in many subheads, and by the inclusion of eight new applicants for Government subvention.

Agencies for which significant increases are proposed include the following:-

Boys' and Girls' Clubs Association—

Caritas-

Increase of $289,000 due to increased salaries and wages, increased cost of materials and equipment and new projects.

Increase of $223,300 to cover increased assistance to family services, new youth activities and salary increments.

Children's Playground Association---

Increase of $37,000 due to salary increases and a new project in Portland Street. Christian Family Services—

This is a new application for which a subvention of $140,000 is proposed to assist in meeting general expenses, including staff salaries, of a Family Service Centre and an Old People's Home at Rennie's Mill.

Girl Guides Association—

Increase of $25,000 to cover the cost of a new post of HQ Commissioner and expansion in the New Territories.

Hong Kong Family Welfare Society—

Increase of $120,000 due to increases in general expenses and salaries.

Hong Kong Society for the Blind-

Increase of $60,800 for general expenses and salary increments.

Hong Kong Society for the Protection of Children—

Increase of $25,000 almost entirely accounted for by a new creche at Tsz Wan Shan and a new nursery at Sau Mau Ping.

Lutheran World Federation-Li Cheng Uk Friendly Centre--

Increase of $40,000 to assist in general expenses of the nursery and group work activities. Po Leung Kuk-

Increase of $117,000 which is mainly accounted for by a new ward for 40 mentally retarded children and a new nursery at Ham Tin Resettlement Estate for 100 children, together with increased salaries for staff.
