This Department came into existence in December, 1967 and funds were created by Special
Out of the estimated expenditure of $2,987,500, more than 78% or $2,338,100 is for personal emoluments. Nearly all of the staff were transferred from either the Commerce and Industry Department or the Census and Statistical Planning Office of the Colonial Secretariat to form the nucleus of the new Department.
Under Other Charges Annually Recurrent, $351,800 or 54% or more of $649,400 is provided for the hire and maintenance of data processing equipment.

The increase in the overall provision under Other Charges Annually Recurrent is mainly due to a significant rise in respect of "Teleprinter and S.H.F. Link charges", and the inclusion of new subheads "International air services talks", "Airport Terminal Building background music" and "Membership of Inter- national Airport Associations".
Under Special Expenditure, provision has been made for the purchase of an additional fire- fighting vehicle, the replacement of a foam tender, the installation of a private automatic telephone branch exchange and the acquisition of the services of an Air Traffic Control Standards Officer, to be on secondment from the United Kingdom.
